Architectural landmark transformed into contemporary London homes

Bordering Regent's Park in central London, the historic curved, pillared street of Parkl Crescent, originally designed by Buckingham Palace architect John Nash in the early 1800s, is now home to the new high-end Regent's Crescent development. Developed by CIT Group, the scheme includes 68 Grade I-listed apartments, nine Garden Villas and one of London's most extensive resident amenities, comprising over 9,000 sq ft of entertainment, spa and business facilities, using Domus’ Limestone tiles throughout the swimming pool, spa and wellness areas.

Award-winning architectural practice PDP London was appointed to oversee the reimagining of the building, with the full interior scheme delivered by architecture and interiors studio Millier. An iconic architectural landmark, the new development returns the properties to their original residential use, having recently been home to a modern open plan office following Park Crescent’s redevelopment in the 1960s.

The interior scheme conceived by Millier responds to the heritage character of the architecture, offering the central London residences elegant interpretations of traditional details, with the design team combining 'regency grandeur with discreet modern luxury' throughout the interiors.

We spoke with Millier to learn about their swimming pool and spa design, and hear about their experience using Domus tiles…

Luxurious spaces for wellness & relaxation, featuring porcelain stone from Domus

The wellness and relaxation areas feature Domus’ Limestone tiles throughout, helping Millier create a luxurious and discreet space for residents to relax in. The pool hall, spa court, changing and shower areas, plus the steam, sauna and treatment rooms are finished in Limestone – a large format, through-body porcelain stone design. Used in both a natural and a bush hammered finish, the tiles provide the high levels of slip resistance required for use within the pool tank and surrounding pool deck. A mitred with bevelled edge profile detail has been fabricated from the same tiles around the pool, creating a refined aesthetic and seamless transition between the pool and surrounding deck area.

Millier specified Domus’ Limestone tiles in a warm, natural tone as it was “highly complementary to the other finishes and provided a seamless aesthetic throughout the amenity area” – as well as being durable, tactile and suitable for use within the pool area.

"The overall amenity palette is restful and natural in tone, with accents of antique brass metal, tinted mirror and glass and polished plaster feature finishes. The design is intended to evoke the experience of the most exclusive international luxury spas whilst being a welcoming and well-appointed extension of the private home for the Regent's Crescent residents."

When asked if they encountered any challenges during the design process, the Millier team noted,

"The pool edge detail was a particular challenge, as we always envisaged a seamless and minimal perimeter with a floating deck appearance. The Domus tiles allowed for the flooring finishes to wrap perfectly into the pool tank."

Domus’ in-house technical team can assist with all swimming pool enquiries during the design process, including bespoke solutions for the pool deck and surrounds, edges, drainage gullies and gratings, steps and pool tank. In addition to slip resistance in compliance with the applicable standards, Domus can meet all technical and safety requirements for any project using tiles in and around swimming pools.
